Stanford McMurtry Art and Art History Building

The Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s $56 Million, 96,000 sq.ft. Art and Art History building houses multiple programs in art practice, design, art history, film and media studies, and documentary film and video. The building program includes art studios, shops, screening spaces, film editing rooms, exhibition space, the Experimental Media Art Lab and Sound Studio and the Art & Architecture Library.  The engineering design focused on developing functional system to accommodate the exquisite architectural design of the building as well as meeting the sustainability objectives.  MEP systems included chilled water / heating hot water air handling units, art studio and shop exhaust systems, a dedicated AHU with Relative Humidity controls for a rare-book preservation area, exhibition lighting and controls, and BAS system integration.  Continuous VE effort was conducted throughout the design process to maintain project budget.
