Stanford Art Gallery Seismic Retrofit

Stanford Art Gallery Seismic Retrofit

The $10 Million 20,000 sq.ft. historical building renovation and seismic retrofit project restored the earthquake damaged structure and provided new spaces for a number of art programs, including painting studios, sculpture studio, photography labs, student art gallery, and exhibition spaces. The restoration efforts included the reuse of the original skylight for daylighting and utilizing the existing building ridge as the exhaust outlet for process exhaust.  All mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were replaced with new.  Special MEP design included custom designed photo developing sinks, dust collection, photo lab exhaust, and settlement traps for art studios.  Extensive coordination was conducted with the architect and structural engineer to accommodate the preservation efforts and structural upgrade.  A complex lighting controls system was developed to support the exhibition spaces.
