CSU East Bay Molecular Research and Environmental Analysis Lab Renovation

csu East Bay Molecular Research and Environmental Analysis Lab Renovation

The 5,500-square-foot lab renovation complete with cutting-edge technology, which allows for new collaborative, hands-on learning opportunities.  The lab is the university’s newest and largest renovation of research and teaching space for their STEM Program.  The project site was bounded by significant amount of existing utilities.  Low floor-to-floor height also limited design options for the HVAC system.  Extensive survey was conducted to document the existing conditions for construction document preparation, which accurately reflected the field conditions.  Utilizing the existing building ventilation and a new decoupled energy efficient VRF air conditioning system, the program requirements and budget goal were met in spite of the challenging field conditions.  The program includes an open molecular analysis lab with flexible lab casework, an imaging core facility, an environmental lab with special plumbing provision, and other lab support functions.
